Tournament director general Alexei Sorokin has said 170,000 volunteer applications have been registered for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, breaking the global football competition's record.


The campaign to recruit volunteers for the 2018 tournament and 2017 Confederations Cup was launched in Gregorian calendar month by Russian President Vladimir Putin and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
"We ar over happy with the results of the [volunteer recruitment] programme," Sorokin told TASS following the passing of the point in time for submitting applications.

In October of last year, the Russian Sports Ministry certified fifteen educational activity institutions in eleven cities across the country, formally authorising them to recruit and prepare volunteers for the Confederations Cup and therefore the tournament.

A total of five,500 volunteers are going to be needed for next year’s Confederations Cup, with candidates for the tournament needed to be over the age of eighteen by could ten.
